21st Century Scholars
Indiana's 21st Century Scholars Program offers income-eligible Hoosier students up to four years of paid tuition at an eligible Indiana college or university after they graduate from high school. In middle and high school, 21st Century Scholars are connected to programs and resources to help them plan, prepare, and pay for college. Once in college, Scholars receive support to complete their college degrees and connect to career opportunities.
How to Enroll
7th and 8th grade Indiana students whose families meet income eligibility guidelines can apply to become a 21st Century Scholar. Applications must be received by June 30 of the student’s 8th grade year. Students may apply online, or through a local school or nonprofit organization that has agreed to submit online applications on behalf of eligible students. The helpful video below describes the program and gives some enrollment instructions.
Requirements While in High School
While in high school, 21st Century Scholars are expected to complete a Scholar Success Program that helps them plan, prepare and pay for college completion. Three required activities each year help Scholars stay on track to graduate high school and earn a college degree. Participation in the Scholar Success Program is recommended for all Indiana students and required for 21st Century Scholars who start high school in the fall of 2013 or later. Students must also graduate from high school with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or above with a Core 40, Academic Honors, or Technical Honors diploma. Additionally, Scholars must complete the FAFSA by March 10 of their senior year. Finally, Scholars must enroll in an eligible Indiana college or university within one year of graduating from high school.
Requirements While in College
While in college, 21st Century Scholars must complete at least 30 credit hours each year to stay on track toward earning their degree on time. Scholars must meet State of Indiana academic requirements as a sophomore, junior, and senior, and they must remain enrolled as a full-time student each semester that the Scholarship is received.
